What does this post mean?

While browsing back through an old post, I discovered a reference (by me) to the “Island of Lost Toys”.

Now, you might be scratching your head, because it’s kind of a misquote, really. A sub-conscious combination of referents?

Somehow were combined, in the dark recesses of my memories, “Pleasure Island” (from Pinnochio) and “The Island of Misfit Toys” (from the Rankin-Bass claymation classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer).

Pleasure Island was a dark place, where ill-behaved boys are turned into donkeys.

The Island of Misfit Toys is more tragi-comic, where forgotten and unloved misfit toys live.

My brain also wants to mix in some Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang too.

Probably because of the Disney version of Pinnochio—which has a similar ‘sinister corrupter’ character. Is there some Fagin mixed in there, too?

Maybe it’s my subconscious cooking up a future Villain, I’m not really sure.

A while ago I started to do a lost-toys story. But after the first couple of paragraphs, I realized I was just rehashing Rankin-Bass, so I back-burnered it for a while.

I’ve always liked the Child Catcher. I’m on his side. I am sympathetic to his cause. Do I want to see “bad” children “get what they deserve”?

Probably means you shouldn’t ever ask me to babysit…heh.
